INC Editor at Large, Tom Stubbs

Earlier this week I got to spend a fair amount of time working with Britain’s own, Tom Stubbs, and coordinating the launch of his collaboration with INC International Concepts. Here’s a blurb from the press release and photos of the slick collab.

Downtown dapper and fashion elite alike attended the launch of the new INC Editor at Large campaign this past Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Held at the exclusive (yet to open) members-only club Parlor in Soho, the event featured INC’s first mens’ editor at large, British menswear stylist and writer, Tom Stubbs.

Stubbs, a frequent contributor to the Sunday Times Style and GQ UK, brought his expert eye and unique gentlemanly style for nine looks in the upcoming INC Men’s Fall 2011 Collection. Six models brought to life his fresh editorial sensibility and focused on sharp tailoring and updated classics from the collection.  Also screened during the evening was an exclusive video to be released during the season. Stubbs displayed his wit and knowledge while sharing stylish tips for the modern man in the video.

The INC Editor at Large campaign featuring Tom Stubbs will launch at Macy’s nationwide in late August 2011 with price points ranging from $49 — $199.

Stubbs also runs his own mens’ style blog at StyleandError.co.uk

New Barber Shop NYC

Since moving to NYC, my priorities have been as follows:

  1. Find somewhere to sleep.
  2. Find somewhere (hopefully more than once a day) to eat.
  3. Find a damn good barber.

The latter of that list has proved itself most difficult. Sure — I haven’t walked around the streets of NYC looking like a wildebeest (yes, that’s how it’s spelled — weird, right?), but I’ve not been to the same barber twice. After 6 years with the same barber in Dallas — I was hard-pressed to find the same unrequited love in New York City…that is…until today.

Today, June 28th 2011, marks the triumphant discovery of New Barber Shop.

I’d like to thank Google for this discovery. The past few barbers and hairstylists that I have been to were pure recommendation…so I decided to turn to the trusty interwebs.

I took my boy PK along for the ride — just in case it ended up to be a horrible haircut…I wouldn’t be the only guy with a bad ‘do. It’s unrequited love…you know the deal.

Reminiscent of Cuba — or literally picked out of Havana and transported to West Chelsea — the news plays on the 14″ television (in Spanish) while Manolo and Pedro banter back and forth in grumpy old man Spanish that I can barely understand. The walls are plastered with photos, posters, old clients, new clients, babies — apparently my barber, Manolo, has been cutting hair for awhile (some Google review read 60+ years) and there are “thank you’s” and “we love you’s” and signed headshots and a giant photo of Marilyn Monroe…because really…what’s a barbershop without a hot babe on the wall?

PK and I took a photo in (yeah — we were those guys) and Manolo and Pedro went to work. Hair (and Spanish slang) started flying while these guys took us from ruffians to well-groomed gents in under 30 minutes. Manolo shot quick questions at me, “Is that short enough?”, “Square on your neck? Or Round?”, “Short sideburns?” thru his banter with Pedro and some other patrons in the shop, clearly discussing the news and a girl named Marianna who he seemed to have an opinion about.

In the end — Manolo was meticulous about my quaff and on top of it all — the cut only cost me $14. (Yeah — that’s right…no typo there). Fourteen big ones.

Hats off to New Barber Shop. Drop by and tell them Will sent you.

Embracing Accessories: Uniform Wares

As you know (or may not know), jewelry hasn’t really been my thing over the past few years. I’ve dumbed-down my accessories but I’m feeling a slight tug towards accessorizing more — but simply. Thanks to some clever designs by Miansai (and the fact that I won a bracelet in a Refinery29 Twitter contest), my fondness for accessories is slowly returning.

But I need a watch…

(enter Uniform Wares from stage left)

London-based, renowned watch brand, Uniform Wares today releases the latest collection in its growing portfolio of British-designed, wristwatches, the 150 Series. Designed with a slimline, delicately contoured, lugged case, the 150 Series pays homage to the styling of classic dress and watches whilst still maintaining the modern, streamlined detailing which has come to define the Uniform Wares aesthetic.

Designers and company founders, Patrick Bek and Oliver Fowles see the launch of the 150 Series as their first foray into more classically designed timepieces that will still appeal to both women and men.

The 150 Series is a slight departure from our previous collections, but the 150’s uncluttered dial and slimline case still retains the same modern, inspiration we have always referenced in our wristwatches,” says Bek.

I’ve gotta get my paws on one of these.

Mini Scooter E by BMW Unveiled

If you’ve been holding off on purchasing an electric scooter, this may be the beauty that you’ve been waiting for. The Mini Scooter E by BMW is a retro plug-in inspired by the Mini Cooper.  The scooter designs will feature the same circular instruments and speedometer found on the famed vehicle, and a lithium ion-power source.

Not just an attractive ride, the scooter has a handful of impressive add-ons, including a smart phone docking station that unlocks the vehicle, GPS software that scans for nearby Mini Scooter E’s, and a helmet with an integrated microphone and headphone set that allows riders to listen to music or use their phones while driving. The scooter’s GPS system even triggers the vehicle to flash its headlights when passing another Mini Scooter E on the road.

BMW hasn’t revealed exactly how much the lithium ion-powered scooter will cost, but it’s estimated that they’ll be priced at over $6,000–significantly more expensive than standard scooters.

David Yurman Has a Nice Piece

I’ve always thought of David Yurman’s mens line was reserved for those guys with a different style than the one I try to perpetuate here and in my personal life.  Not bad, just not me.

I recently received a press release featuring his current line and decided to give him another chance — and — to my surprise, his mens line hasn’t transformed but has definitely expanded.  While still catering to his classic clientele, some new items caught my eye.

Yurman is holding a trunk show on October 14 and I have a request in to interview him while he’s here.  More on that soon.

It just goes to show that designers can tweak their products and embrace additional clients. Just. Like. That.
